Join BCCLA Staff Lawyers Mara Selanders and Meghan McDermott and special guests Spencer Izen and Jessica Kim, Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor of The Griffins’ Nest student newspaper, for a panel discussion on privacy rights and freedom of expression in Canada today.
This panel moderated by BCCLA summer student Katherine Benson will focus on:
- Research conducted by the BCCLA on youth vulnerability to searches of their phones and other electronic devices in Canadian schools;
- Threats to student’s freedom of expression by the Vancouver School Board and Spencer and Jessica’s fight for a Student Press Freedom Act in British Columbia;
- The current law governing police authority to search cell phones;
- Your privacy rights at Canadian borders, including the most recent updates on bills going through Canadian parliament.
The BCCLA is excited to premiere a new animated video on youth and electronic devices as part of this event.
